Female Masturbation - break the taboo
I wanted to deal with this issue because it often happens that when I deal with topics such as women's sexual freedom, female masturbation and I promote free dialogue about these topics, almost all men always answer the same thing:
'Eh but what does this have to do with feminism?' 'Eh but it is known that women do it too, there is no need to say it explicitly' .
So, let's start from the fact that I don't think it is possible to compare the sexual freedom of men to that of women, simply for the obvious fact that if a man has sex with many women he is considered cool, while if a woman has many sex with men different is (most of the time) considered an easy girl and a "no good". Unfortunately, even today a woman is perpetually scrutinized and judged, especially in the sexual sphere, even today the woman is not totally free to do what she wants with her sex life, on the contrary, just look at the phenomenon of online "slut shaming" which is also triggered only from gossip to understand how much those personal choices, which should be free, like; what to wear, how many sexual partners to have, what attitude to have etc.. in reality for women they are not free, and are a source of continuous judgments and attacks.
That said, I don't want to dwell on talking about masturbation, I don't want to compare female to male masturbation, but simply point out and make it clear that many women, even at the age of 25-28, are ashamed to say that they masturbate, or even make it clear that they do, there are women who feel ashamed or guilty even trying to explore their sexuality; and this in the 21st century is absurd. In a society where the woman is seen as a sexual object in almost all existing media (very wrong from my point of view, but that's another matter), can you explain to me why female masturbation is still taboo?
If we women grew up in a culture and society where we were made to understand from an early age that exploring our sexuality is important, that there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, no one would make it to 30 without even knowing how to achieve a orgasm. If from an early age we were explained what masturbation is, the beneficial effects that this practice has on the mind and body, without taboos, without jokes and without prejudices; no one would feel "dirty" masturbating, no one would be ashamed to ask simple questions about their sexuality. So for all those who tell me 'women are known to do it too, it goes without saying' it is NOT SO. We need to talk about it, we need to destroy these taboos, we need to make women and men understand that there is nothing wrong with it, nothing to be ashamed of and above all we need to talk about it to get to a point where if a woman talks openly about her sexuality she she is seen as an easy girl and is not judged.
Sex isn't taboo, so why should female masturbation be?
